During my stay in Dale, Norway
as part of an artist-in-residence programme, I displayed in my studio some objects
and documentation of my daily life that I had produced there. I transformed my
studio into a museum about Dale and presented
it to the public.
This 'Memuseum' was based on my fieldwork research in Dale.
Every day I created an object made of things offered by the locals,
things collected from the neighbourhood,
and products bought at local shops. I presented these objects in the
studio. Alongside them I displayed implements present in the studio,
including a broom,
bucket, and dustpan, with captions in Norwegian and Japanese. This
installation thus served as a documentation of my daily life in Dale.
This project gave me an opportunity to seek different ways of expressing and
depicting the relationships between a place and its people. I used my studio
as a laboratory where I could freely play with the various ideas acquired through
the fieldwork.
